Doctor Gabriel Ganyaglo, an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and a Fistula Repairer, speaking on Utv Adekye Nsroma with Afia Pokua aka Vim Lady a Ghanaian media personality and the Head of Programs at the Despite Media Group, operating Peace FM, Okay FM, Neat FM and Hello FM in Kumasi and also the former editor of Adom FM.
In the discussion about ” Hope for Obstetric Fistula patient”, as the day was marked as world Obstetric Fistula day, Doctor Gabriel Ganyaglo explain the obstetric fistula as one of the most serious and tragic childbirth injuries such as tear and abnormal surgery during childbirth. A hole between the birth canal, the bladder and the rectum, which is caused by prolonged, obstructed labour without access to timely, quality medical treatment or labor.
He added the diseases leaves women with incontinence problems, and often leads to chronic medical problems, depression, social isolation, shame etc due to the scent on their body and unaware urine.
Dr Ganyaglo advice women suffering from obstetric fistula in all regions of the country and urged individuals and family’s who has little or no knowledge about the diseases that, they shouldn’t take it as a spiritual disease and send their wife and daughter to hospital when they start experience the following signs after delivery. 1. Unable to control your urine, 2. Painful sex, 3. virginal discharge, 4. Foul smelling, 5. Too much expansion of virginal hole.
He give hope to all woman that,the problem is preventable because its normally affect ladies with “small virginal hole” and this kid of ladies or woman are less than 1.5 metres in height and ladies who are around 1.5 metres going a less victim because they have wider hole. He said it is advisable who all height if ladies should regular visits hospital when they are pregnant for proper and save delivery.
