A Nigerian pastor, Adegoke Adewuyi has been arrested by the police for faking his own kidnap in a bid to extort money from church members.
The Ekiti based pastor locked himself in a hotel for 3 days to create an impression that he’s been kidnapped.
He got his accomplice to call his church that he has kidnapped him and they had to pay a ransom of 3,000 Naira before he would release him.
The pastor then sent panicked messages to the church which made the members started a contribution to raise some funds for the ransom.
Asuquo Amba, the commissioner of Police in Ekiti State said following a report by the church that their pastor has been kidnapped, they tracked the number the kidnapper was using to negotiate for the ransom.
They followed the lead and it took them to a hotel, where the pastor was relaxing with the fake kidnapper.
Speaking after his arrest, Adegoke Adewuyi said he was under spiritual attack.
