Mr Okoh Pinehas Chartey, the driver of the car that caused the death of award-winning hiplife artiste, Ebony Reigns has been remanded in prison and charged.
This decision, according to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Peacefmonline was made by the Nkawie Circuit Court.
Mr Chartey was driving a Jeep car with registration number AS-497-16, which was involved in the accident that claimed the lives of the hiplife songstress and two others around Nyamebekyere and Nsuta on the Sunyani-Kumasi highway, on February 08, 2018.
The driver pleaded not guilty to the charges of dangerous driving and driving without license and would reappear before the court presided by Mr Johnson Abbey on March 24, 2021.
Police Chief Inspector Jonas Newlove Agyei told the court that the accused was driving the car which was occupied by the Kupe singer, Franklina Nkansah, and military personnel, Vondee.
The group was returning from Sunyani to Accra on that fateful day after the singer paid a visit to her mother.
Police say the driver got to a place on the road where there was a heap of sand on his lane and swerved to the other lane to avoid running into it.
But, unfortunately, ran into some railings at the edge of the road killing the other three occupants of the car.
Mr Chartey however came out of the accident alive with some injuries and was rushed to the Bechem Government Hospital.
Fresh investigations have however revealed that Chartey’s driving license had expired on August 28, 2015; almost three years before the sad incident.
He was therefore brought before court to explain the charges leveled against him but till he reappears, he would be in prison custody.
