Licking your partner during copulation is one of the most intimate and private acts a couple can enjoy.

On the contrary, there is so much mystery and misinformation surrounding it. Yet, it is a healthy part of any romantic relationship. It can be fun and pleasurable by both the guy and lady during romance, but let us be reminded and accept the hard truth that, it can also spread disease.

Think about it: Licking puts you into contact with skin and body fluids, including; semen, vaginal fluids, blood, urine, or breast milk. Any of these body fluids can contain disease-causing viruses or bacteria. And spitting out these fluids will not protect you from infection.

In addition, simple acts like shaving and flossing around the genitals may leave tiny cuts that can allow viruses and bacteria to enter the body which may expose the couple to STDs when they engage in oral sex. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that can be passed from one partner to another through oral sex include herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphillis and Human papillomavirus (HPV). Researchers have found that some cancers of the oropharynx (the middle of the throat) and tonsils are probably caused by a certain type of human papillomavirus (HPV) which is easily transmitted through oral s%x.

However, licking your partner is not a 100% guarantee that you are going to contract the STI’s mentioned above. You can be careful and look before you lick.

But remember that just because someone looks disease-free on the outside doesn’t mean that they are. If you see lesions, growths or unusual discharge in the genital area, hold off. These symptoms can be due to numerous STIs, and physical contact with them can lead to infection.
