The minister of communication, Hon Ursula Owusu has warned that the government is giving a period for Ghanaians to register their SIM cards with their Ghana Card and anyone who fails to register his or her SIM Within that period will get his sim blocked permanently.
Speaking in a press briefing today, September 5th, 2021, Hon Ursula Owusu Ekufful said that barring any unforeseen circumstances, SIM card registration will start in October 1st, 2021 for a six month period and end on 31st March 2022. She added that any SIM which is not registered within this exercise will be blocked.
She further detailed that the minimum age for SIM registration has been set to fifteen (15) years. She said this was necessary because of the increased use of communication services since the onset of COVID pandemic and also to facilitate e-learning.

She also revealed that every Ghanaian can register a maximum of ten(10) SIM cards across all networks and foreigners will have a limit of 3 SIM cards across all networks
She further warned “Let me caution here, that people should not think that they can hide behind Businesses and register as many SIM Cards as they want”
She said if this exercise, the SIM card registration when undertaken correctly as the ministry intend to do, will reduce or eliminate fraudulent and criminal activities, help authorities ascertain the accurate number of valid and accurate Sims on the network.
